Having graced the previous generation of consoles, with a duo of critically acclaimed games, and given an upgrade for the current, gamers around the world have been eagerly awaiting mention of a new entry in the series. Yes, that’s right. I’m talking about the Metro series, based on the books by Russian author, Dmitry Glukhovsky.
If by now, you reached your current point in life without any knowledge of the Metro 2033 and Last Light games, let me briefly fill you in. The planet has seen a destructive nuclear war wipe out almost all life, and in Russia, people now live in the underground Metro tunnels. Not so bad you may think, but when you take into account that various forms of life has mutated beyond comprehension and become volatile to say the least. The Metro games see you take control of protagonist Artyom, trying to unravel the mystery of the Dark Ones and survive from day to day.
Metro Exodus once again sees you take on the role of Artyom, in the year 2036. No longer wanting to stay in the dangerous metro tunnels, Artyom and the Spartan Rangers decide to flee to the easy on search of a new and safer life, in a non linear game structure, that spans a year of his life.
Day and night cycle combined with dynamic weather, choices that result in dire consequences for your comrades, and much more lie in wait for the fearless Artyom.
As a fan of the series already, I’m beyond excited for the next instalment of Metro Exodus. Huge non linear levels, scares like no other, damning consequences of your choices and actions? It seems like 4A Games have taken what was an already winning formula, and turned Metro into something new, something bigger. Something, more dangerous.
