For those of you old enough to remember the early 2000’s, you will no doubt be familiar with the name Timesplitters. If you have spoke with me on social media, you will know full well how badly I’d love to see this game released again. Whether that be as a new game, reboot or remake. Whatever. I played the hell out of all three games in the series. It’s addictive, funny and just downright awesome to play, to the point I could talk all day to you about it and the fun times I had. Especially the time when a friend of mine stayed at my house and played for 48 consecutive hours. That's just how committed me and my friends were to playing Timeplsitters.
Now, I’m a move that has excited the hell out of me, Koch Media have acquired and are therefore the owners of the intellectual property and now have the rights to create video games produced by Koch Media’s publishing label, Deep Silver. So what does this mean? Well, potentially we will see Timesplitters resurface after many years of uncertainty in gaming wilderness. If you’ve never played it before, or have, it’s time to snag a copy and on old PlayStation console or whatever you can play it on, and start playing again for nostalgia’s sake. I know I will.
Free Racical Design were the team who created this series who later became Crytek UK Ltd, and finally transformed into Deep Silver Dambuster who are now a part of the Koch Media family. The series has a passionate following with many singing the game’s praises for the fluid gameplay and unique humour along with pop culture references. Not to mention that aside from the time hopping campaign, there was fast paced multiplayer, custom map building and those hard as nails challenges whereby you could earn medals by completing them at insane speeds. So much gameplay and fun times were had.
Koch Media CEO Klemems Kindratitz has this to say. “The original games gave fans a massive content offer and provided a pure and genuinely fun arcade shooter experience. We have many fans of the Timesplitters series among our own staff who are passionate about creating a product that will thrill todays gaming audience.” It seems that Timesplitters is still precious to many others, and if our luck is in, we will see more of Timesplitters in the future.
In addition to Timesplitters, Koch Media have also acquired the rights to Second Sight Which was also conceived by Free Radical back in 2004. It followed the journey of an American parapsychology researcher who undertook missions with US marines and featured combat and stealth missions.
Full details of Timesplitters and Second Sight products are to revealed in due course. Sonthere you have it, Koch Media seem to have plans for both series now, and this makes me one very happy man.
