There’s nothing better than a good party game with friends and family, that offers plenty of banter and laughs and brings out some good vibes among a group. This is when gaming can come into its own, and lets everyone join in the fun whatever the title may be. Could be Mario Kart, Bomberman or any other popular multiplayer game. Good memories for myself with these over the years. Now we have a new party game on the block, and it’s name is; It’s Quiz Time. Almost 30,000 questions across a multitude of topics to suit all ages and allowing up to 8 players on one console, there’s plenty of fun to be had.
One point that I feel needs to be addressed first and foremost, is that not only will you require the use of a smartphone, but also the companion app that compliments the game o be able to partake in the game. If you can’t use your phone for whatever reason, then you are limited to just one game mode with a controller. For me this is a design choice flaw, and passing a controller around would have been ideal for those who had forgotten their phone, or didn’t want to install a new app, or even had no memory left to install one. I’ve been a part of the latter before as my phone’s memory has been filled with updates. This aside, let’s get down to it.
The game’s digital host, Salli is fully voiced, and even referred to me by my gamertag name which was quite a surprise to me, but was also pretty cool at the same time. A neat little touch like this can go a long way for me. The quality of voice acting leaves her feeling much like a robot more than an enthusiastic game host, with any form of passion out the window. But this isn’t the main part of the game, although given how frequent you’ll hear Salli, you’d expect something less monotonous coming through your TV speakers. That’s not to say her personality is boring however, as she will encourage you, offer witty retorts and poke fun at you as you play along.
A big plus in my books, is the interactive live streams you can partake in with up to 10,000 other people via Mixer, Twitch and YouTube. Needless to say, bumping into that many people at once is a distinct implausibility, but if there were community events to be set up, I’m positive that something like It’s Quiz Time could become a massively popular event. I know I’d be interested if my internet was stable enough to hold any kind of live stream for any length of time. Until then, I’m more than happy to indulge myself with some local gameplay.
As for recommending the game, I’d say that it’s a must buy if you have enough people for some party gaming sessions, but for solo play, it doesn’t quite hit the mark. Although that’s not to say it’s a bad title in this respect. The more the merrier is certainly the best way to talk about It’s Quiz Time.
Even though I chose the video game category, I was surprised just how poor my knowledge was for some of the lesser known nuggets of information. So not only can you have fun, but you can learn too. Who says that video games aren’t educational?
Overall, It’s Quiz Time is primarily aimed at people with friends, or even strangers over the internet for getting the most out of it. There’s enough content in it, that will keep you busy for quite some time, and let’s face it, with that many questions and categories, you will have your work cut out going through them all. Let alone remembering the answers.
